Suggested Materials: The finished product: Necklace extender with magnetic clasp (a jewelry project from Rings & Things)
      2"   40-099-01        4.2mm curb chain
      4    37-136              Jump rings
      1    39-417              Magnetic clasp
      1    39-240              Lobster clasp
Magnetic clasps, lobster clasps and jump rings are available in white, silver plate, gold plate, sterling silver and 12kt gold-fill. For sterling and gold-fill chain options, try 2mm drawn cable chain.

    Tools:
    Round-nose pliers, cutters

    Instructions:
    1. Cut the chain in half to make two sections.
    2. Use a jump ring to attach one of the chain pieces to the lobster clasp.
    3. Attach the other end of the same chain piece to one side of the magnetic clasp.
    4. Now attach the second chain piece to the opposite side of the magnetic clasp.
    5. Finish the end of the second piece with a jump ring.
    To use the Extender:
    1. Hook the lobster clasp end of the extender to the loop end of the necklace.
    2. Use the clasp that is already on the necklace to attach the jump ring end of the extender.

Tip: Use brass, sterling, gold-fill or other non-ferrous chain to keep the magnetic clasp from attracting the chain.

    Jump Ring Hint:
Jump ring hint (Rings & Things) When you open and close jump rings, twist sideways instead of "ovalling" them. This keeps their shape better, which makes them easier to close all the way.
