Bright, lemony citrine gemstone beads are known by many names, including (but not limited to) Brazilian topaz, Colorado topaz, Madeira topaz, Occidental topaz and Saxon topaz. As can be guessed from this extensive list, unscrupulous dealers have tried to pass off citrine as the pricier golden gemstone topaz. This practice has led to yet another label, "false topaz". Despite this negative connotation, jewelers find admirable qualities in semiprecious citrine beads, including the fact that they are more durable than topaz.
Citrine is a form of quartz, and many citrine gemstone beads on the market today are actually heat-treated amethyst - possibly including ours (we've been unable to confirm that we're receiving all-natural citrine). Citrine components are easily scratched, and should be kept away from prolonged exposure to strong light or heat. With these precautions, citrine jewelry will last for many generations!
