  • These faceted beads emulate crystal at a more-affordable price. Czech firepolish beads are perfect for delicate antique-style jewelry, and are also ideal for repairing or updating antique jewelry. In a series of techniques going back centuries, they are created by pressing glass in a mold to make the bead, then faceting it by machine. The bead's surface is then slightly melted to "fire polish" it by putting it back into a heat source to give it a better luster. This process slightly rounds off the facets. Hole size for all firepolish beads is .8-1.2mm, unless otherwise noted. • Turquoise has been revered for thousands of years. Its name means "Turkish stone" in French, a reference to where Persian material passed on its way to Europe. Turquoise is considerably softer than quartz, and is usually treated for stability. Chinese turquoise is generally stabilized using either wax treatment, resin stabilization and/or dye to improve the naturally soft stone's wearability. Most of our Chinese turquoise beads are mined and processed in the Hubei Province of mainland China. The gemstone occurs naturally in shades ranging from sky blue to grey-green, with varying amounts of brown and black matrix, usually in locations where the soil contains high concentrations of copper. Please see the Related Products links below for similar items, and more information about this stone.

  • Basic Loops The loop size will depend on how much wire you leave past the end of your beads, and around which part of your pliers you bend the loop. A good loop size is usually about 1/3 of the way from the tip of your pliers, with about 8mm of wire. Use round needle-nose pliers. If using an eye pin, decide which way you want the loop to go - the same direction as the premade loop on the other end, or 90º off. Keep this direction in mind as you bend the rest of the wire. Cut off any excess wire (we suggest retaining 8mm above the top of your beads). Grip the pin just above the top bead (at the arrow above), and bend the wire sharply toward you. Grasp the tip of the wire with pliers, and bend smoothly away from you, around the pliers. Wrapped Loops Use chain-nose pliers to grasp the wire just above the top of the bead. Use your fingers to bend the wire sharply over the top of the pliers, at a 90° angle. You should have 2-3mm of straight wire between the bead and the bend. Use round-nose pliers to grasp a spot just above the bend, and use your fingers to smoothly bend the wire all the way around the tip of the pliers. Now use pliers to grasp the wire firmly across the loop. Use your fingers or chain-nose pliers to carefully wrap the wire around the stem. For best control, experts recommend you break this step into a series of half wraps. Trim excess with flush cutters. See Related Products links (below) for similar items and additional jewelry-making supplies that are often used with this item.

It might not seem like much each time, but it can add up to a lot of saved money! Small screw-tight cosmetic containers work very well for saving left-over bits of unfired Art Clay Silver and other precious Metal Clays. • Aquamarine belongs to the beryl gemstone family. Bead-grade aquamarine tends to have many interesting inclusions and numerous opaque areas. However, these A and AA grade aquamarine beads are mostly translucent (and higher priced than our other aquamarines). Beryls are hard gemstones, excellent for jewelry that will be worn frequently. However, be sure to store aquamarine beads in a dark place, as they often become paler if left out in the sun. Its name is derived from the Latin words for "water" and "sea." Aquamarine is said to protect from perils of the sea, including seasickness, and to heal issues related to the throat chakra, such as nerve pain, toothaches and disorders of the neck, jaw and throat. Aquamarine is the birthstone for March, and beryl is the zodiac stone for Scorpio. Please see the Related Products links below for similar items, and more information about this stone. • Moonstone: With its ghostly glow, this feldspar stone almost seems magical. High-quality rainbow moonstone is usually chatoyant and sometimes displays a strong cat's eye. The floating-light phenomenon and sheen of moonstone are called adularescence or schiller. The light is scattered by alternating layers of two kinds of feldspar and produces a misty luster. Incipient cleavage cracks often are visible inside the gemstone. Rainbow moonstone is a close relative of labradorite. Moonstone is the birthstone for June in Europe, and in the United States it shares that distinction with alexandrite and pearl. Color Banded Rainbow Moonstone is strung in an ombre pattern, with darker gray moonstone beads at the ends, fading to lighter gray and white beads, then moving into peach, with golden moonstone towards the center. See the Related Products links below for similar items, and more information about this stone. Moonstone: With its ghostly glow, this feldspar stone almost seems magical. • To install a blade in the saw frame: Loosen the wing nuts on the saw. Slip one end of the blade into the fixture. Make sure the blade's teeth are pointing out and down. (Sort of like a Christmas tree.) Tighten the wing nut, then apply pressure from the end of the saw so that the blade is guided into the other fixture. (A common method of applying this pressure is to put the handle up against your hip or ribs, and push the far end against a sturdy wall.) Tighten the other wing nut. The blade should be very tight in the saw before you use it. (It should "ping!" not "thunk" when you test the tension.)
