.925 solid sterling silver wire and sheet has long been the standard for making fine jewelry components and wire wrapped jewelry. Choose from dead soft and half hard wire in round and square shapes. Sterling silver is a precious metal alloy (blend) containing at least 92.5% silver. This is why sterling jewelry supplies are sometimes marked with .925 or 925. The most common alloy is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Sterling wire will naturally tarnish over time, and can also be oxidized to create an antiqued looked right away.
Choose from 16-gauge (thick) to 28-gauge (thin) silver sheet for piercing and sawing into custom shapes, dapping (doming), soldering, forming into bracelet cuffs, and other fine craft applications. 24-gauge and thinner sheet is popular for metal stamping and embossing. 16-gauge is popular for bracelets.
Fine silver (.999) jewelry making wire is at least 99.9% pure silver. Benefits of using 999 fine silver in your jewelry include the fact that it is softer (more malleable to work with) than sterling silver, can be fused (joined with heat, without solder), and it tends to tarnish more slowly than sterling alloys. Use fine silver wire for high-end wire wrapping, wire sculpture, and other wire jewelry.
Choose from plain and serrated .999 fine silver bezel wire for setting cabochons, glass focals, and stones. Plain and serrated bezel comes in 28-gauge dead soft silver in 1/8-inch and 3/16-inch options.
Argentium silver wire provides a tarnish-resistant silver wire that still contains at least 92.5% pure silver, along with 1.2% germanium. The remainder is copper. For metal workers, Argentium offers additional benefits as well. More info about Argentium
