Designer Tips

  • Clean the inside of the rivoli settings with alcohol swabs, and allow to dry.
  • Place a small drop of adhesive into the cup of each setting and lightly but firmly press your Tangerine rivolis into the settings. Set aside to dry.
  • Cut black Greek cord into two 1.5" pieces and two 3.75" pieces. One at a time, place a small dot of E6000 or leather adhesive on the end of each cord end and affix the fold-over crimp (crimps will hold in place themselves if you do not have adhesive but I like giving them a little extra security with glue).
  • Line up each end of the cord with the bottom of the hole of the crimp and fold over each side of the crimp with your pliers to close evenly over the top of cord. You should have 4 sections of cord (two 1.5" and two 3.75") with gold crimps at each end when you are done.
  • Using your pliers, gently twist open the 10mm jump rings (side to side) and feed the crimp end holes onto each jump ring with the flat sides of the crimp ends facing each other: one end of a 3.75" length, one end of a 1.5" length, the other end of the same 1.5" length and then the other end of the first 3.75" length. Close the jump ring, and repeat for the second 10mm jump ring and cord sections. Refer to the picture for lining up the backs and proper placement.
  • New to jewelry-making? For most secure way way to open and close jump rings, see Jewelry Basics 101 (PDF).
  • Attach two of the 4mm jump rings to the top of each 10mm jump ring and then a third 4mm jump ring through both of those. Attach this top jump ring through the hole of each French hook ear wire.
  • On the bottom cord piece of each earring, use your last two 4mm jump rings to attach the rivolis in their settings to the cord. Take care to notice the front of the earring with how your French ear wires are facing.
  • Place an 8mm Light Siam round onto a head pin, and top it with a bead cap. Refer to our wireworking tutorial to wrap and trim excess wire around the top, and close around the inner loop of Greek cord. Repeat for other earring.
  • Place a 4mm bicone on a head pin, cut away excess wire from the top to leave 0.5" of wire, form a simple loop at top, and close around the bottom of the 10mm jump ring. Repeat for other earring.
