Description
For most materials, we suggest that you submerge the item in a small amount of water and work alternately from both sides of the bead. Submerging the item in a bit of water helps prevent noxious dust. (Drilling/cutting most shell, for example, creates dust that is harmful for your lungs.)
By working from both ends of the bead, you can enlarge the hole to the size you want, keeping in mind that it will be slightly smaller at the midpoint, than it will be at the outside edges of the hole.

Finally, a bead reamer that works!
This is one of the best and most-used tools in my toolbox. I have several manual bead reamers and nearly gave up until I saw this little gem. I figured, why not give it a try? It works like a charm. Just submerge both bead and reamer tip in water and press the button, holding the bead firmly, and you will have a perfectly reamed bead! Some take longer than others (ruby and sapphire vs. labradorite and pearl), but I haven't found a stone yet whose hole I haven't been able to enlarge.
