It is a chemical twin of azurite, and the two stones are commonly found together. Real malachite's low hardness means that it is easily scratched and susceptible to becoming dull. Protect genuine malachite beads from sharp blows and dramatic temperature changes. Do not wash in water, as that can remove the protective polish. Malachite beads are also easily damaged by acids and ammonia.
