Seed Bead Facts What are seed beads? Popular, small glass beads commonly used for beadweaving, embellishment, and tiny spacer or accent beads. How are they made? Glass is pulled or drawn using a hollow tube, and then the glass is cut in small pieces. They are sometimes reheated to round the ends. What's that funny little zero? That zero refers to the number of aughts, which is a unit used to indicate the size of small beads. The scale is inverted, so larger numbers of aughts correspond to smaller beads (i.e. the bigger the number, the smaller the bead). Size 6 would be 000000, but since that takes up too much room, it is abbreviated to 60. Olive Jade: Yellowish-green olive jade beads and pendants are occasionally called peridot stone due to their color (not because of any relationship to that gemstone). Olive jade is actually a form of serpentine, and is not a "true" jade. See the Related Products links below for similar items, and more information about this stone.

BC jade beads are a beautiful, mossy, medium-green color. The "B.C." stands for British Columbia, which is where real BC jade (a true nephrite jade) is mined. Stock that we know to be actual British Columbian nephrite jade, we have labeled with a "C" (for Canada) at the end of the stock number. More often, we have "BC Style Jade" -- these are more likely to be "new jade" (a serpentine), dyed "white jade", and sometimes they may even be "Taiwan jade" (another true nephrite jade, just not from BC). Our BC-Style Jade beads can vary from moss green to nearly emerald green, and from opaque to semi-translucent. Without extensive testing, it is difficult to tell the difference between these stones. See the Related Products links below for similar items, and more information about this stone.
