Designer Tips

  • For step-by-step instructions on creating macramé jewelry, see How to Macramé a Hemp Bracelet.
  • A choker will usually fit as a double wrap bracelet on most people. Double the amount of working and anchor cord in the original (blog) tutorial for this project.
  • When using this link, fold anchor and working cords with centers together, and attach to the link with a lark's head knot (see illustration below). The link replaces the shortest cord in the original tutorial.
  • Macramé your way to the ends on both sides.
  • If desired, all beads can be strung onto the bottom of the anchor cords before anchoring to the board, and slid into place as you knot.

  • The entire piece is adjustable. The knots can be scrunched together or pulled apart on the anchor cords in order to adjust length. Length adjustments have to be made before the clasp is made.
  • As you work your way to the ends, keep a close eye on the length to keep link centered. This project has the button offset because it was knotted symmetrically, but lengths can be adjusted on either side to compensate.
  • This button accommodates all 4 cords, so I put all cords through, then tied a knot for one end of the clasp.
  • For the looped end, I tied a knot with all of the cords at the end of the last square knot, then -- for extra security -- paired the ends off and continuously knotted them together to form the two sides of the loop.
  • I then tied a knot at the appropriate spot to catch the button. Knotting tweezers and needles are helpful in getting the knots placed correctly.
  • Use a sturdy needle to separate the final cord ends, to make a nice tassel.
