Designer Tips

Cut leather flush after measuring desired length. Use a dab of glue inside one cord end. Insert leather into the cord end and gently pinch the cord ends together until secure.
Use the hook and eye clasp independent of each other. The hook connects to a large, dramatic ring as a closure on the bracelet. The eye portion of the clasp floats along the leather cord, holding the tassel.
Slide the guru bead and eye portion of the clasp onto the leather cord.
Finish other end of leather cord.
Use 20-gauge wire to wire wrap bicone-shaped hogan beads to connect the cord ends of the leather to the clasp. For instructions on making wire-wrapped loops, and the best way to open and close jump rings, see Jewelry Basics 101 (PDF)
Wire wrap end of tassel, pulling the link through the top of the cupola. Finish by wrapping onto eye clasp. (see how to make a tassel.)
The heavy, unsoldered textured links in this chain can be used as decorative jump rings. They can be twisted open with pliers, with no loss of material.

Design Options

Substitute a traditional birthstone colored crystal to replace the icy White Opal used in this design.
There are many other charms that could replace the zodiac; have fun finding the one that best suits you!
Silver, gold and other platings can be used for the metal elements.
Black, natural or other colors of leather would work nicely in this design.
