Designer Tips

  • New to jewelry-making? See Basic Jewelry-Making Technique Sheet (PDF) for instructions on making simple loops.
  • To make things easier, we are using wire looping pliers to make all the wire loops for this project. However, if you wish, you can use round nose pliers instead. Place onto an eye pin the following beads: 4mm round bead, 8mm pearl, and 4mm round bead. Create a simple wire loop after the last bead and trim off excess wire. Create a total of 6 of these segments. We are callings these segments "A".
  • Place onto an eye pin the following beads: 1 large olive bead, 1 medium olive bead, 4mm pearl. Create a simple wire loop after the last bead and trim off excess wire. Create a total of 8 of these segments. We are callings these segments "B".
  • Place onto an eye pin the following beads: 4mm pearl, 4mm round bead, 6mm pearl, 4mm round bead, 4mm pearl. Create a simple wire loop after the last bead and trim off excess wire. Create a total of 4 of these segments. We are callings these segments "C".
  • To connect all your beaded segments together, you will open and close the simple wire loops the same way you would open and close a jump ring. That will be the construction method for this entire necklace, connecting the segments together via their simple wire loops.
  • Please refer to the photo for the orientation of each beaded segment. To make the necklace, starting at one end, connect segments together in the following order: A, B, C, B, A, B, C, B, A. This represents one half of your necklace. Create an identical strand following the same sequence.
  • Connect the end of one strand to one part of the toggle clasp. Connect the other end of the same strand to a top hole on the luna moth pendant. Repeat for the othe side of the necklace with the other strand, other part of the toggle clasp, and other side of the moth pendant.
  • To make the crystal dangle at the front of the necklace, place a 4mm pearl and small olive bead onto an eye pin. Create a loop after the olive bead but make this loop larger then normal so that you can place your pear shaped pendant onto it. It will need to be at least twice the size of a normal loop.
  • Open that large loop on the segment you just made and slip on the pear shaped pendant via it's hole at the top. Close the loop. Next, open the loop on the other side of the dangle segment and connect it to the hole at the base of your luna moth pendant. Close the loop.
