Description
To "draw down" wire (make it thinner and more springy), slightly file one end of the wire and insert it into the draw plate. Grab it with pliers and pull through. It works well to put the draw plate into a vise or clamp at one end of a room so you can pull long pieces of wire through the draw plate. You can also have a partner simply hold the draw plate while you pull the wire through -- especially when using popular gauges around 20 gauge and thinner.

Excellent for making your own ear wires
Take 18g or 20g sterling wire and draw it down to 21 or 22g. Now your wire is extra springy, and excellent for making your own (durable) ear wires.
