Description

Larvikite, more commonly known as black labradorite, is an igneous rock that occurs only in the Oslo rift near Larvik, Norway. Like labradorite, larvikite is a coarse-grained mixture of plagioclase and feldspar. Individual grains of anorthoclase within the stone catch the light, giving it an iridescent, chatoyant quality that is often described as labradorescence. Larvikite is light to dark bluish gray, with silvery, light-blue reflections and flecks of black. In addition to its use as a gemstone, it is popular as a facing stone on both the interiors and exteriors of buildings. Larvikite is used in New York City's United Nations building and a multitude of banks and pubs in the United Kingdom (hence the aka "pub stone"). Healers believe this stone enhances psychic abilities and helps maintain vitality and youthfulness.

Bronzite is part of the pyroxene group. Bronzite is a hypersthene, and is more properly called enstatite, or when it has more iron, ferrosilite. This form of pyroxene is chemically "weathered" resulting in an opaque stone with a submetallic luster, especially on its cleavage surfaces. Weathering on the hypersthene occurs due to moisture and temperature conditions within the igneous rock, metamorphic rock or meteorite where the stone is found. Bronzite often contains inclusions of highly reflective minerals, such as hematite and goethite, which enhance the beautiful bronze-like effect when polished (hence its name). Some beads also exhibit a cat's-eye effect. Bronzite ranges from greenish-black to brown and has medium hardness.Bronzite is believed to facilitate a feeling of certainty when goal-setting and help individuals take control of their actions and decisions. It is said to promote "correct" or "principled" behavior and help dispel restlessness. See the Related Products links below for similar items, and more information about this stone.
