Picasso marble offer muted and masculine colors with an earthy edge. Like all forms of marble, Picasso marble (aka Picasso jasper and Picasso stone) comes from limestone. It was formed when magma covered limestone fields during prehistoric times. As heat and pressure forced the magma through fractures in the limestone, it painted the material with gray and tan colors streaked with black lines. The resulting patterns are dramatic and abstract, like some of Pablo Picasso's artwork - thus the name of this semiprecious gemstone.Picasso marble is fairly new to the bead market but has been used by Zuni fetish carvers for some time. It is said to help discover the cause of past imbalances, aid in circulation problems, and increase the body's metabolism (causing weight loss). Some believe that Picasso marble beads and pendants transform intuition into intellectual thought and renew old friendships that have been lost.
